KUCHING: The Christian community in the state has been called on to continue giving full support to the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The call was made by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who described Abang Johari as a leader for all races in strengthening racial and religious harmony and driving a united and prosperous Sarawak.

In his Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 message today (Dec 24), Uggah said Abang Johari’s leadership has been a key pillar in uniting Sarawak’s multi-racial and multi-religious society, ensuring the state remains peaceful and harmonious as it continues its development agenda under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“The Premier is a leader for all races, uniting everyone to create racial and religious harmony and a united Sarawak.

“Therefore, I call on all Christians in Sarawak to continue giving their full support to his leadership to ensure Sarawak remains prosperous, peaceful and harmonious in line with the PCDS 2030 vision,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook.

Uggah said PCDS 2030 sets the state’s direction towards economic prosperity, social inclusiveness and environmental sustainability, with an emphasis on building community resilience so that no one is left behind in the development process.

He also referred to the presentation of the Sarawak Budget 2026 by Abang Johari on Nov 24 as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to empowering the people and ensuring that prosperity is shared equitably, including in rural areas.

He added that the RM9.3 billion development allocation in the 2026 Budget, with RM6.1 billion or 66 per cent channelled to rural development, demonstrates the government’s continued focus on narrowing the development gap and improving the well-being of rural communities.

Meanwhile, Uggah said the state government would continue its support for religious institutions through an allocation of RM120 million to the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) for 2026, while also highlighting the government’s priorities in education, talent development and initiatives to address the cost of living.

In closing, Uggah extended Christmas greetings to Christians and called on Sarawakians to move into 2026 with renewed hope, unity and a shared sense of purpose in building a brighter future for all.
