KUCHING: Eight political secretaries to the Premier, in a united show of loyalty and resolve, lodged a police report today against a Facebook user accused of posting derogatory and inflammatory remarks about Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his family.

The social media post, allegedly made by a user under the name ‘Mike Rain’, was described as offensive, slanderous and potentially seditious, prompting swift action by the Premier’s close aides to uphold the dignity of Sarawak’s highest leader.

Political secretary Abdul Samat Gany, who led the group to the Satok police station, said the remarks not only insulted the Premier but also risked inciting public hatred and undermining respect for the state’s leadership.

“In response, we have taken this matter seriously by lodging a police report. We urge the authorities, especially the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to investigate and take firm action under the Sedition Act 1948, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, or any relevant legal provision,” he told reporters.

Abdul Samat revealed that simultaneous reports were being made across Sarawak, including in Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu, to reflect the seriousness of the matter.

He also disclosed that the offensive post, which used highly inappropriate terms and made personal attacks on the Premier’s family and lineage, has since been taken down by MCMC.

While reaffirming the government’s respect for public discourse and democratic expression, he urged netizens to uphold civility and responsibility in their online engagements.

“If you want to raise issues, do so based on facts and reasoned argument. Don’t resort to vulgarities or insults,” he said.

The collective stand by the Premier’s political secretaries sends a strong message that defamatory attacks, especially those targeting leaders and their families, will not go unchecked.
