KUCHING: The wife of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, passed away early this morning (June 23) at Normah Medical Specialist Centre here.
She was 76.
The news was confirmed by the Premier’s chief political secretary, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, in a Facebook post expressing deep sorrow.
He said she breathed her last at 3.34am today, corresponding to 26 Zulhijjah 1446H.
“The final tribute ceremony will be held at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya from 10am to 12 noon today, before she is laid to rest at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery,” he said.
Just hours before her passing, during the Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak Celebration 2025 gala dinner last night (June 22), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim informed attendees that the Premier had to leave the event early to be with his wife at the hospital.
“Let us pray for the wellbeing of the Premier’s wife who is in the hospital. He (Abang Johari) had to leave the ceremony to be with her,” said Anwar.
Juma’ani was the president of the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI) and had been actively involved in charitable and social initiatives over the years.
She was the daughter of the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman, the second Governor of Sarawak.
She married Abang Johari on February 26, 1977.
Together, they had two children — Abang Abdillah Izzarim and Dayang Norjihan.
