KUCHING: A suspected electrical short circuit sparked a fire that damaged several office equipment and a motorcycle at a logistics premises along Jalan Sungai Apong-Pending today.
The fire, believed to have originated from an air-conditioner, broke out around 5:00 am.
Fortunately, it was swiftly brought under control by firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations.
No casualties were reported, and the main structure of the premises remained unaffected.
The team had to force open the roller shutters to gain entry and extinguished the blaze using water from their fire engine.
The flames were fully put out at 5:24 am, followed by overhaul work to prevent any reignition.
The operation ended at 5:38 am.
Meanwhile, in Serian, a Proton Saga Aeroback was engulfed by flames along Mile 29, Jalan Kuching-Serian, at 10:35 am.
Firefighters from the Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 16 kilometres away, and successfully extinguished the flames.
No injuries were reported, as the driver managed to escape in time.
The cause of the car fire is still under investigation.
The operation ended at 11:03 am.
