TEBEDU: The community, particularly the Bidayuh, have been urged to preserve their cultural heritage while strengthening socio-economic development to ensure Tebedu’s identity and progress remain intact.
Tebedu state assemblyman, Dr Simon Sinang Bada, said that the organisation of programmes such as ‘Ngiradan Ngirumang’ is not merely a traditional event, but a symbol of identity and pride for the Bidayuh community that must be preserved.
“This tradition is a hereditary treasure that reflects our beliefs, values and identity. If it is not safeguarded, future generations may lose their cultural identity,” he said when speaking at the ‘Ngiradan Ngirumang 2026’ event on Saturday.
He added that the ‘Ngiradan Ngirumang’ programme has now received recognition and has been included in the event calendar of the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry, demonstrating the government’s commitment to elevating local culture to a higher level.
At the same time, he stressed the importance of active participation from all segments of society to ensure the continuity of the tradition so that it does not fade amid modernisation.
Apart from cultural aspects, Sinang also informed attendees about the implementation of economic development projects such as the “Harp Economy” initiative, which aims to create business opportunities, particularly for women in the area.
He said that RM46 million has been allocated for the implementation of the project, and processes related to land acquisition and compensation payments will be carried out in the near future.
“This project is expected to improve the socio-economic status of the local population and strengthen the economic standing of rural communities,” he explained.
