KUCHING: In celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Kuching Teochew Association is pleased to announce the successful launch of the ‘Online Blossoming Taste of Teochew’ virtual culinary training programme.

This initiative, held on May 24, was organised in collaboration with the Chao’an District, Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, and the Chao’an District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

The programme aims to preserve and promote traditional Teochew cuisine among the global Teochew community.

“The first phase of the online training featured demonstrations of authentic Teochew dishes and pastries, including Double Delight Rice Dumplings, Duck Mother Dumplings, Salted Fruits, Curved Shell Peaches, Sesame Coins, Crystal Buns, Braised Goose, Oyster Omelette, Taro Paste, and Teochew Tea steam Shrimp.

“These sessions were conducted by the Chao’an District Human Resources Training Center and hosted by the Hongxing Vocational Training School, according to a press statement by The Kuching Teochew Association today (May 30).

“This cultural exchange was made possible through the efforts of the Kuching Teochew Association’s Cultural Division and the Teokhiaw Club.

“The collaboration received enthusiastic support from regional Teochew associations, including those in Sri Aman, Simangang Soo Heng , Engkilili, Sibu, and Bintulu,” it stated.

The initiative holds significant importance for overseas Teochew communities, as it helps bridge the generational gap and ensures the continuity of cherished culinary traditions.

With the advancement of digital communication technologies, the online platforms serve as vital tools for fostering cultural connections and mutual understanding between Teochew communities in Sarawak and their ancestral homeland.

“The Kuching Teochew Association remains committed to promoting and preserving Teochew heritage and looks forward to future collaborations that celebrate and sustain the rich cultural tapestry of the Teochew people,” the statement added.
