Prices of 14 items controlled during Christmas

MIRI: A total of 14 items have been placed under the price control scheme for five days effective from yesterday (Dec 23) until Dec 27 in connection with the Christmas celebration.

According to the local Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs deputy head Sayed Mohd Nizam Sayed Zahari  yesterday during the launch of the price control scheme here, the meats and vegetables in the list cannot be sold at prices higher than those set by the ministry.

The price scheme was launched concurrently nationwide yesterday. The launch here was held at Boulevard Hypermarket, Jalan Pujut.

The prices per kilogramme for the affected are live chicken (RM6.70), standard chicken (RM8.50), super chicken(RM 9.50), chicken wings(RM12), imported turkey (RM30), and imported bone-in mutton or imported bone-in lamb(RM30).

For eggs, Grade A, B and C, the prices are 39 sen, 38 sen, and 37 sen each respectively.

The ceiling price for tomatoes is RM7 per kg; Indian green bell pepper (capsicum) (RM15); pork belly (RM19.50) and pork meat (RM18.50).

Nizam also revealed that a total 99 offences were recorded this year by the ministry involving a total of RM17,033.10 worth of seizures with compound fines totalling RM14,500. There were 81 cases in the previous year.

“Last year, goods worth RM245,439 were seized resulting in compounds totalling RM21,050.00,” he said.

Most of the offences came under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
