MIRI: In an exciting fusion of culture, creativity and environmental consciousness, young designers in Bintulu will turn discarded materials into Hari Raya outfits.

The Recycle Runway Fashion Show 2025, organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri Branch in collaboration with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), invites primary school students aged six to 12 to create festive ensembles using only recycled materials.

Set to take place during the month of Ramadan, this competition is a movement towards sustainability.

Participants will craft traditional Hari Raya attires such as baju kurung, baju Melayu and kebaya from unconventional materials like paper, plastic, used fabric and cardboard, aiming to raise awareness about waste reduction while celebrating Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

Winners will receive cash prizes and public recognition, with their designed showcased to a wider audience.

The event reflects a growing global trend in sustainable fashion, proving that even the youngest minds can contribute to a greener future.

For those who are interested in joining, they can scan the QR code on the poster or visit https://shorturl.at/0rGXk

Registrations for the fashion show close on March 20 with the judging set for March 23 at 2pm.
