KUCHING: Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) will not side-line any efforts to improve the development of three other branches of the sport in the state.

FAS president Abang Zulkarnain Abang Abdul Rahman said that five-a-side football/futsal, beach football and women’s football would be given more attention.

“Yes, the three branches mentioned have clearly not been given much attention up until now.

“When you compare to the huge difference we have with other states that are way ahead of us in these three branches, their results have shown that their respective state football associations have played their roles well in developing them.

“We take the example of the development of futsal, so far, I can tell you that it has not been given much attention over here and it is a huge loss for us at the moment as we are clearly far behind other states.

“Sarawak is one of the states that has never participated in a futsal competition at national level which shows how far behind we are in terms of development for futsal,” Abang Zulkarnain said.

He added that futsal was actually one of the important sports and tournaments held by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) throughout the calendar year.

“It is the same with beach soccer and women’s soccer with the development of both branches so far behind.

“Therefore, we will come out with a preliminary plan for many agendas that we will focus on from now on. “The best formula is through the cooperation of the members of each district to ensure that the transformation of development as a whole can go according to plan,” he stated.
