SIBU: The private sector must play a central role in driving Sibu’s growth and contributing to Sarawak’s goal of becoming a developed state by 2030, said Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

He stressed that while the state government is committed to the 2030 agenda, success hinges on strong collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“Achieving developed state status is not something the government can do alone.

Tiang speaks to reporters.

“We really need the private sector’s investment. Public-private partnership is the key for Sarawak to achieve that amazing goal,” he said when met by reporters after launching Ibraco’s new sales gallery at Jalan Tong Sang here today.

Tiang said that property developer, Ibraco Bhd’s move to establish a presence here is a step in the right direction.

The listed company is setting up a sales gallery in the town as part of its expansion plans.

“I’ve been talking to Ibraco’s owners for the past two years, encouraging them to consider Sibu for property development.

“I’m glad to see that they’re taking this bold step forward,” he said.

He described the company’s entry into Sibu as a “very good beginning” and encouraged more resourceful and capable developers to consider investing in the town.

“Sibu has great potential. We are the major town in the central zone, and I believe developers like Ibraco are making the right move by coming here,” he added.

Tiang also urged the public to support quality developments by reputable companies, noting that vibrant property activity will further stimulate Sibu’s economy.

“We want the people to buy good properties, and we welcome more developers to take a closer look at what Sibu has to offer,” he said.

The Bukit Assek Redevelopment Plan, one of the town’s mega projects, is among the key initiatives expected to spur economic activity in the area.

Tiang confirmed that several implementation phases will be rolled out this year.

“Sibu is part of Sarawak’s larger development vision, and we are determined to ensure that it grows along with the rest of the state,” he said.
