KUCHING: Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak acknowledges public concerns regarding the recurring floating wood debris issue at Sungai Krangan, Balai Ringin.
Recognising the severity of this issue, NREB is taking immediate action to mitigate its impact and prevent further environmental damage.
“An on-going investigation is now being carried out to identify the source of the wood debris, ensure accountability and establish preventive measures,” according to a press release by NREB on Tuesday.
NREB is also in close coordination with relevant agencies, on the removal of the debris to restore the affected area and to minimise disruptions to local communities.
“Enforcement officers have already been deployed to assess the situation and determine necessary actions, while cleanup efforts are being efficiently coordinated with both public agencies and private sector partners to ensure swift resolution,” it said.
NREB urges all plantation operators to adhere strictly to environmental regulations to prevent further destruction of waterways.
“We remain dedicated to protecting local livelihoods, ensuring water security, and holding offenders accountable for environmental damage.
“Full cooperation from all stakeholders is crucial in maintaining sustainable environmental management and preventing future occurrences,” it added.
