MARKLAND, United Kingdom: Sarawak’s drive to strengthen ethical and globally competitive leadership has received a boost with 29 senior leaders, including Sarawakian officials and academics, completing the Professional Certificate in Contemporary Leadership (PCCL) programme here.

According to a statement, the programme, jointly organised by the Malaysian Research and Education Foundation (MyREF), the Markfield Institute of Higher Education (MIHE) and the Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA), concluded with a week-long residential module in Markfield and academic engagements at the University of Oxford.

Sarawakian participants from institutions such as UNIMAS, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and i-CATS University College said the programme strengthened their commitment to modern, ethical and inclusive leadership, an area aligned with Sarawak’s human capital development agenda under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Dr Jee Teck Teng of Swinburne Sarawak said the experience broadened his leadership outlook and positioned Sarawak as an emerging contributor to international academic and leadership networks.

“The PCCL programme has shaped me into a more inclusive leader and empowered me to create meaningful bridges between Malaysia and the United Kingdom,” he said.

Meanwhile, UNIMAS’ Professor Dr Thomas Kamarudin Kana said the training emphasised foresight, integrity and inclusivity, qualities he believes are crucial for Sarawak’s next generation of leaders.

“The PCCL programme is about building future-ready leaders through foresight, integrity and inclusivity for a better world for all,” he said.

Participants also visited the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) and Linacre College as part of their exposure to global leadership practices.

MASA’s involvement ensured that Sarawak’s leadership pipeline, including civil servants, community leaders and industry professionals, benefited directly from the international programme.
