BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming described the organisation of the Sejambak Kasih programme as a government initiative aimed at helping the needy, especially ahead of major festivals like Chinese New Year.
He said it reflects the government’s efforts to ensure that no community group is marginalised. In addition to easing the financial burden of aid recipients, the programme also helps uplift their festive spirit and meet basic needs.
“A programme like this not only helps recipients financially but also brings government agencies closer to the grassroots community.
“It symbolises the government’s determination to ensure that no community group is left out, especially when celebrating a festival as significant as Chinese New Year,” he said at the Sejambak Kasih Chinese New Year 2025 event, held at one of the hotels here yesterday (Jan 19).
He added that the support and commitment of all parties are crucial to ensuring the continuity of such programmes in the future.
“With the passage of time and economic challenges, efforts to help the needy must continue. Cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and the community is key to the success of welfare programmes like this,” Pang said.
A total of 100 recipients received donations in the form of RM100 in cash and hampers worth RM80 in conjunction with the event.
For recipients who could not attend, RM100 in cash will be credited directly to their respective accounts.
Community Welfare Officer of Bintulu Division, Wan Muhammad Hasif Wan Jamari, was also present.
