KAPIT: A redevelopment project in Kampung Baru here is underway as part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the well-being of residents affected by erosion and flooding.
The project aims to relocate residents from high-risk zones to a new settlement that is safer, more organised, and more comfortable.
In line with this, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki conducted a working visit to the proposed project site at Lot 2559, Kapit Menuan Land District Block, on Tuesday.
The programme, organised by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), was also attended by several state leaders and senior government officials.
The project has been approved with a total value of RM100 million and an expenditure ceiling of RM5 million.
It will be implemented in phases under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
The first phase under the 12MP, to begin this year, involves the preparation of documents for layout plan approval by the State Planning Authority (SPA) as well as the acquisition of land owned by the Sarawak Islamic Council, if necessary.
The second phase under the 13MP will involve land acquisition in the affected areas, along with infrastructure and construction works.
The estimated cost of the entire project is RM30 million for infrastructure, RM31 million for construction, and RM6 million for land acquisition.
A total of 60 people attended the programme, reflecting the state government’s concerted efforts to provide quality housing and an improved living environment for rural communities, especially affected residents here.
