KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) aims to achieve an annual export revenue of RM8 billion by 2030, in line with the long-term goals outlined in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Its general manager Zainal Abidin Abdullah said that the target focuses on five key areas, comprising panel industry expansion, engineered wood development, furniture industry growth, green biomass industry and bamboo-based industry.

“We are focusing in enhancing the panel industry to generate export revenue between RM2.5 billion and RM3 billion, promoting the development of the engineered wood industry to add value to sawn timber, increasing its revenue from RM700 million to RM1 billion as well as developing the furniture industry to achieve export revenue of RM4 billion by 2030.

“We also focus on accelerating the green bio-mass industry to achieve export revenue of RM0.5 billion and expanding the bamboo-based industry to generate export revenue between RM200 million and RM500 million,” he said.

Zainal Abidin said this in his speech during the STIDC Media Appreciation Afternoon Tea Party at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Friday.

He also said that STIDC is embarking on a Business Turnaround Plan (2022-2030) aimed at enhancing existing income, unlocking assets and recovering debts, ensuring cost savings, improving return on investment, and exploring new revenue sources.

“This initiative is designed to help STIDC become self-sustaining and financially robust, in addition to ensuring high investment returns, growing reserves, and leading and pioneering strategic investments.

“Through this, we aim to achieve a cumulative reserve of RM730 million by 2030,” he added.

He further emphasised that achieving these goals will require the media’s continued support through increased news coverage, feature articles, and television and radio programmes focusing on forestry and the timber industry in Sarawak.

“Today’s event is held to celebrate and appreciate the contributions made by the media through publicity and coverage of every activity carried out by STIDC over the years.

“Additionally, this event serves as a platform to strengthen relationships, foster connections, exchange ideas, and explore the best approaches to promote the timber and bamboo industries in Sarawak. Without the assistance and cooperation of media partners, STIDC’s efforts and activities might face challenges in reaching the public.

“Therefore, we deeply appreciate the role of the media in consistently providing excellent cooperation in delivering accurate information to the public. All the assistance provided by the media is highly valued,” he said.
