KUCHING: In conjunction with this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration, a group of 20 prominent Dayak leaders will host a joint Gawai Dayak Open House at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 1.
The event, led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, will take place from 9am to 1pm.
Uggah announced that invitations have been extended to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
“But we are also welcoming everyone else, including foreign tourists.
“This open house is to reinforce the existing unity and harmony among the various races that we are indeed very privilege to enjoy in the true spirit of Segulai Sejalai.
“It is also a celebration of the great Dayak cultural diversity,” he said in his statement on Tuesday (May 27).
He added that during the open house, traditional Dayak food will be served while all present will be entertained to cultural performances.
“There will be unique photography opportunities with the background of Dayak traditional settings at the foyer,” he added.
Among the host Dayak leaders are Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Dagang; Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak, Daruk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and deputy minister Datuk Martin Ben; Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai; Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn and deputy minister Datuk Francis Hardin Hollis and Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
Others are Sarawak Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Public Health and Housing Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, International Trade and Investment Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh, Utilities and Telecommunication Deputy Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang and Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Also joining in are Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala; Infrastructure and Port Development Deputy Minister Datuk Majang Renggi; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department( Native Law and Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep; Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
