BINTULU: Swift assistance, including temporary shelter and emotional support, is being arranged for the victims of a recent fire that destroyed five homes at MLNG Housing, Phase 2, Jalan Abang Usop, Kidurong on the night of May 31.

Following the incident, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, went to the scene to assess the situation and meet with the affected victims.

He found the incident particularly heartbreaking as it happened during the Dayak community’s Gawai celebration.

“This is certainly a very difficult test for the affected families,” he said.

The Samalaju state assemblyman was accompanied by officers from the Bintulu District Office, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Civil Defence Force (APM), and the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to coordinate support and evaluate the victims’ immediate needs.

“We are working on initial aid including temporary shelter and emotional support for the victims so that they are not left to face this hardship alone,” he added.

He thanked all parties, especially the firefighters, for their swift action in preventing the fire from spreading to other homes.

“I truly appreciate the efficiency and dedication of all frontliners, including PDRM, BOMBA, APM, and JKM, who played key roles in ensuring the safety of the residents,” said Majang.

He also hoped the victims will find the strength and resilience needed to rebuild their lives.

The public is reminded to remain vigilant, particularly during festive seasons when increased electricity use and cooking activities heighten the risk of fire.
