KAPIT: Kapit Hospital is in urgent need of upgrading as its current facilities can no longer meet the growing demands of patients and healthcare staff.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat disclosed that the hospital has drawn up a comprehensive plan, including a proposal for a new building, to address its current limitations.
“I hope the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the State Health Department will grant prompt approval, as the proposed upgrade would help address long-standing issues such as limited space, patient overcrowding, and daily operational constraints,” he said during a working visit to the hospital last Wednesday, accompanied by MOH Deputy Secretary-General (Finance) Datuk Zahrul Hakim Abdullah.
Highlighting the urgent need for expansion, Jamit said existing facilities were no longer adequate to support the growing demand for medical services in the area.
“I take this matter seriously and urge both the state and federal governments to collaborate in addressing it for the benefit of the people in this region,” he said.
The visit began with a briefing by Hospital Director Dr Francis Lee Ngie Ping, followed by a tour of several wards and treatment areas.
Zahrul and his delegation spent about an hour inspecting the facilities before attending a luncheon at Rahmat Café.
The visit is viewed as a crucial step towards accelerating improvements to healthcare services in Kapit.
