BA’KELALAN: The construction of a new road linking Ba’ Kelalan to Bario is anticipated to significantly improve access to education for residents in the remote areas.
This matter was discussed during a recent visit to the Ba’ Kelalan Immigration Border Post’s new building project led by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala.
According to Gerawat, the planned Sabah-Sarawak Link Road 2 (SSLR 2) and the border road that will connect Ba’ Kelalan to Long Banga via Bario will not only boost economic development but will also be crucial in improving access to education for rural students.
“We are aware that access to secondary schools in Bario is still a major challenge for many students in the surrounding area.
“With the construction of this road, travel to school will be easier, more comfortable and safer,” he said.
Local residents welcomed the plan as many parents are forced to send their children to boarding schools due to the difficulties faced during daily commuting.
Better road infrastructure is expected to give students the option to commute without having to live far from their families.
The Mulu assemblyman also inspected the newly completed building of the Ba’ Kelalan Immigration Border Post, which is set to begin operations soon.
Gerawat expressed hope that all development projects in the area will proceed smoothly, aiming to enhance the well-being of local residents, particularly by improving their quality of life and access to essential facilities such as education and transportation.
