KUCHING: Sarawakian drivers got an early look at Proton’s new e.MAS 5 electric cars today as the MISI 5 Tour reached Kuching, bringing the nationwide showcase to East Malaysia for the first time.

Hosted by Proton e.MAS 3S Ghee Hua Kuching, the city’s only 3S authorised Proton e.MAS dealership, the event allowed Sarawakian customers to be among the first in the country to experience the new entry-level EV ahead of its official launch.

The tour, organised by PRO-NET, covers 13 states and 29 towns between August and October to connect Malaysians with the e.MAS 5 in everyday settings.

From popular landmarks to showrooms, visitors can explore the car’s features, technology and lifestyle advantages through guided experiences.

In Kuching, the preview drew strong local interest.

Visitors were introduced to the car’s fast-charging capability, which recharges up to 80 per cent in less than a lunch break, and its spacious cabin and frunk designed for families and urban users.

The e.MAS 5 also features smart tools such as pre-cooling and real-time charge planning for more convenient daily use.

At the Proton e.MAS 3S showroom, guests took part in guided workarounds by product specialists and explored interactive displays focusing on safety, design and practicality.

Proton e.MAS 3S Ghee Hua Kuching said the MISI 5 Tour is more than a product showcase, describing it as an initiative to help Sarawakians see how EV ownership can simplify routines, support family needs, and open new lifestyle possibilities.

The event was officiated by Kuching South City Council Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
