KUCHING: Golfers competing in the Mayor’s Cup Golf Championship 2026 will have the opportunity to drive home a Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, offered as the coveted Hole-in-One prize at the tournament on August 8.

The championship, held in conjunction with the Kuching City Day celebration, is expected to attract 258 participants to the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS), making it one of the city’s flagship sporting events this August.

Kuching North City Commission Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, said the tournament is aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle while strengthening camaraderie and networking among participants from the government, private sector and the wider community.

“The organisation of this championship is intended to cultivate a healthy lifestyle, encourage greater public participation in sports, and strengthen unity, cooperation and social ties through the game of golf,” he told reporters during a press conference on the Mayor’s Cup Golf Championship 2026 at Sarawak Golf Club today.

Organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) in collaboration with Greatearth Company Sdn Bhd and the Sarawak Golf Club, the championship was revived three years ago after it was last held in 2005 and has since regained its status as one of Kuching’s prestigious golfing tournaments.

The competition will feature two main categories, namely the VIP and Invitational category to be played on the Matang and Santubong courses, while the Open category will be contested on the Siol and Demak courses.

Apart from the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Hole-in-One prize, participants in the VIP and Invitational category stand to win electrical appliances worth a combined RM9,000, while the Open category offers RM5,600 in cash prizes. Lucky draw prizes worth RM6,000 will also be up for grabs.

Hilmy noted DBKU remains committed to transforming Kuching into an active, healthy, inclusive and liveable city through the continuous organisation of quality sports and recreational programmes.

“We want Kuching to be recognised not only as a rapidly developing city but also as a comfortable and lovable place to live through programmes that encourage the community to embrace a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

He added that expanding health-focused initiatives also forms part of DBKU’s preparations for an ageing society by 2027, with more age-friendly facilities and activities planned to cater to residents of all generations.
