KUCHING: The government is urged to provide proper support to young Sarawakians, especially those in the art industry.
Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang said that the average youth is very talented and deserves support to continue their artistic creativity.
“On behalf of the people of Sarawak, I appeal to the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government itself to provide support, especially in terms of facilities and related facilities in the state.
“These things are important so that young people in particular can come forward and improve their skills in the various arts, especially the art of music,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Kamek Nang Champion (KNC) Final Concert at Balai Budaya, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Kuching, on Saturday night (Dec 17).

Idris pledged RM25,000 to the Persatuan Seni Anak Sarawak (Anak Seni) as his show of support for the local music industry.
“This programme presents something unique with the talent of local youth, so I hope that a competition like this can be organised in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Chief Assistant Secretary Nasir Lariwoo said the KNC had screened in the state’s main cities including Miri, Sibu and Kuching to select the best participants throughout the state.
“We at the ministry see the programme as a positive event especially for all artists regardless of background, race and so on.
“Therefore we also hope that this kind of program can also be continued in the future,” he explained.
Also present were DBP Assistant Director Abdul Rasid Subet, Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Awang Putrayusrie Awang Reduan, Finas Borneo Chief Assistant Director Maffizan Saupie, Pembinanan Oval Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Affendi Jeman and Anak Seni President Mohamad Ghazali Jeman @Jalot Jeman together with other representatives.
