KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak’s (PRS) recent leadership transition is a “family affair” that reflects the party’s commitment to unity and inclusiveness, said former PRS Youth’s Chief, Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

Describing the outcome of the Sixth PRS Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) as part of the party’s democratic process, Snowdan said the new Supreme Council under newly elected President, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai, will fairly accommodate all elected representatives, including those who contested but were not elected.

“The goal is to ensure that all members are united as one family.

“Unity is extremely important. The top position carries great responsibility, and we must avoid any division within the party,” he said when met by reporters after the Sarawak Open International Dragon & Lion Dance Cup 2025 (SOIDLDC2025) press conference at Baitul Makmur II Building here today.

He expressed confidence that the appointed posts within the council would be used to bring in elected representatives who were not among the elected Supreme Council members.

“I believe they will fill the appointed positions to bring back all the YBs into the Supreme Council. Like the late Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, who always accommodated everyone – especially the YBs (elected representatives) – we cannot leave them outside,” he said.

Snowdan pointed out that the inclusion of appointed positions was provided for in the party’s constitution and reflected the size and structure of PRS as a growing political organisation.

“Other parties may have more appointments, depending on their size and number of members. It’s normal,” he added.

He reiterated that despite the competitive nature of party contests, PRS remains united in its mission.

“Whatever it is, it’s still within the family. That’s what the new president said – to unite everyone,” he stressed.

PRS’ appointed posts that are currently vacant include the treasurer-general, information chief, deputy secretary-general, deputy treasurer-general, deputy information chief, four appointed ordinary members, permanent chairman, and alternate permanent chairman.

Meanwhile, Batang Ai assemblyman, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, has been appointed as the party’s secretary-general.
