KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women Chief, Datuk Seri Doris Brodie, outlined the next steps for the party’s women’s wing, highlighting the need for consolidation, increased representation, and active participation in future elections.
Noting recent changes in the women’s wing, Doris stressed the importance of strengthening fellowship among members.
“There are some older ones who have left, but we have new faces in the line-up. So we must first strengthen our fellowship. That is number one,” she said to reporters at the PRS Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) today.
She also highlighted a recent amendment to the party’s constitution approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), which now requires that 30 per cent of Supreme Council members be women.
Doris expressed hope that this representation would extend beyond party leadership to include positions on councils, government-linked companies, and in award nominations.
“When you talk about 30 per cent, it’s not just specific for Supreme Council members,” she explained.
Looking ahead, Doris said the women’s wing is optimistic that Sarawak’s ongoing delineation process will benefit the party.
“We are hoping and praying hard that PRS, PRS Women Wing, will be allocated at least a quarter of the new seats. Out of that, hopefully, some will be given to PRS,” she said, adding that the women’s wing aims to field candidates in the next state election.
She reiterated her commitment to advocating for women’s participation.
“As long as I am still the Women Chief of PRS, I will not stay silent until I see the figure. If not equal, at least improve from what is current,” she said.
