KUCHING: Despite Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB)’s recent support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate in the Jepak by-election, their elected representatives will retain their current seats in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session.

DUN speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said that this decision follows the absence of ‘signal’ from GPS’s political leadership to alter PSB’s seating.

“While PSB and its supporters openly backed GPS in the by-election, reflecting a change in their political stance, I haven’t received any ‘signal’ from GPS leaders to change PSB’s seating arrangement,” Asfia said during a press conference at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters today (Nov 18).

Asfia also said that with PSB no longer acting as an opposition party, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, the PSB president, will cease to be the opposition leader. The identity of the new opposition leader for the upcoming DUN session, however, remains unknown.

Asfia further announced that the swearing-in ceremony for Iskandar Turkee, the newly elected Jepak assemblyman, is scheduled for November 20. Consequently, slight adjustments will be made to the assembly’s seating plan, affecting the Jepak seat and some GPS representatives.
