KUCHING: Three siblings who lost both parents in a tragic incident in Sri Aman will receive psychosocial support and welfare assistance.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said that her ministry, through the Social Welfare Department, has gathered preliminary information on the case and will conduct a visit to ensure the children’s well-being continues to be safeguarded.

“We extend our deepest sympathies over what has happened. This is a shocking case, especially as it involves school-going children,” she added.

Nancy added that protective officers have already collected relevant details related to the case and that psychosocial support is being provided to the affected children.

“God-willing, we will also look into appropriate assistance for the children through funds under JKM,” she said when met at the MADANI Adopted Village handover event organised by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development at Kampung Buntal Hall in Santubong here today.

Nancy, who is also Santubong Member of Parliament, said the children are currently under the care of their mother’s family.

She also advised the current caregivers to apply to the court for a formal and lawful custody order in accordance with existing regulations.

“I strongly encourage that the legal process through the court be carried out so that a suitable and qualified guardian can be officially appointed to care for these children,” she said.

“This is the step we have taken, and we hope everything proceeds smoothly.”

This follows a tragic incident in Sri Aman on Wednesday, whereby a married couple was found dead at their home in Taman Mutiara, Jalan Brayun, Simanggang, with serious injuries to their bodies.

Police received a report from a member of the public regarding the discovery of the unconscious couple at 6.55 am.

Initial investigations confirmed that both victims, a 45-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife, had died at the scene.

The male victim was a headmaster at a school in Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, while his wife was a nurse.

The bodies were discovered by their child, who was preparing to go to school after realising that both parents had not come out of their bedroom.

All three children are still in school, with the son in Year Four, while the two daughters are in Form Four and Form Five respectively.
