BAU: Public knowledge and training on fire safety are vital in equipping communities to respond effectively during emergencies, says Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
The Transport (Riverine and Marine) Deputy Minister said it is not just about being aware of such knowledge or training but also about preventing fires that could lead to loss of life, injury or property damage.
“The Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) fire safety campaign aims to educate the public on fire prevention and early response during emergencies,” he said.
“I hope the knowledge gained can be shared with families and communities, and that such initiatives will continue for future generations,” he added when officiating Bomba’s Fire Safety Campaign at the Tasik Biru Festival today.
Themed ‘Building a Fire-Resilient Community’, the campaign involved residents from Kampung Melayu, Kampung Pangkalan, Kampung Krian and Kampung Skibang.
Participants joined the Fire Community, Fire Tahfiz Squad and Fire Hydrant Friend programmes.
Henry, who is also the Tasik Biru assemblyman, said the fire safety campaign plays a role in fostering cooperation between government services and the public by ensuring fire safety knowledge reaches the grassroots.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Director, Jamri Masan, said that, to date, there are 1,107 Fire Communities in Sarawak with a total membership of 11,859.
“For Bau, there are 56 Fire Communities consisting of villages around Bau, Bratak, Jagoi and Singai,” he said.
“The Bau Fire and Rescue Station has played an important role by conducting fire safety talks and demonstrations in villages, government and private premises, as well as primary and secondary schools.
“I hope this programme will continue to have a positive impact in reducing the number of fire and drowning incidents in the Bau area,” he added.
Launched in 2014, the Fire Community initiative aims to raise awareness of fire risks, encourage public participation in fire response efforts, and strengthen community ties with the department.
