KUCHING: Strengthening integrity, accountability and transparency in public service remains central to Sarawak’s vision of becoming a high-integrity developed state by 2030.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said initiatives such as the ‘Sarawak Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) Integrity Day 2026’ reflect the state government’s commitment to good governance within the Sarawak Civil Service.
“DID Sarawak has adopted the ‘Discipline in Execution: Approach (DIEA)’ model under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, focusing on discipline, accountability and strict adherence to procedures in project implementation.
“Vision without action is noise; action without vision is aimless. That is the importance of translating plans into tangible and measurable outcomes that benefit the people,” he said during the DID Integrity Day 2026 at the Sheraton Hotel today.
He noted that public trust depends on clean, transparent and accountable governance.
“A well-governed administration not only curbs corruption but also prevents abuse of power, waste of resources, breaches of trust, and embezzlement of public funds,” he said.
He also commended DID Sarawak for achieving two international certifications, the ISO 9001:2015 for quality management in hydrology services and data management, and ISO 37001:2016 for its anti-bribery management system.
“These certifications reaffirm DID’s role as a beacon of integrity and excellence in Sarawak’s development landscape.
“The real measure of success lies in officers carrying out their duties with integrity and professionalism,” he said.
He urged all personnel to uphold the highest standards of ethics in their work, stressing that integrity must be practised consistently.
“Integrity is a habit practised in every action, big or small,” he said.
As the technical department, DID was also reminded to ensure that all procurement and project implementation processes follow transparent, established procedures to enhance efficiency and public confidence.
“With the commitment and initiatives demonstrated by DID, I am confident that public trust will continue to grow, propelling Sarawak to even greater heights of integrity, governance and sustainable development,” he added.
