KUCHING: Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, urged members of the public to be more courageous in reporting any form of abuse before it escalates into a more serious incident.

She said that the mindset of “reporting will bring shame” is no longer relevant today, as every report made could help save a victim’s life.

“I call on the community not to be afraid to report any cases of abuse, domestic violence or emotional distress by contacting Talian Kasih at 15999 or via WhatsApp at 019-261 5999.

“Making an early report is not about exposing someone’s shame, but about saving lives,” she said when officiating the ‘Karnival Sejahtera MADANI and Jelajah Jom Sihat Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) 2025’ event for the Kuching Division (Santubong) held here recently.

Nancy, who is also Santubong Member of Parliament, stressed that her ministry will continue to play an active role in protecting vulnerable groups, empowering families economically through skills training and micro-entrepreneurship, and strengthening community networks so that schools, clinics and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can function as early support systems for families in need of intervention.

On the programme, Nancy said that community-based approaches such as this are vital as they bring various health and welfare services directly to the people.

“In addition to health-related activities, the carnival is enlivened with aerobics sessions, a fun walk, colouring and drawing competitions, a STEM Showcase and STEM Challenge in collaboration with TEGAS, as well as the Jualan Rahmah MADANI, offering essential goods at affordable prices to help ease the cost of living for the public,” she added.
