KUCHING: The Department of Agriculture Sarawak has reminded the public that it does not request payments or personal information through third parties or unofficial communication channels.

Its Director, Dominic Chunggat, said that the department has received complaints regarding the misuse of its name, logo and documents by irresponsible individuals or syndicates aiming to deceive victims for fraudulent purposes.

“These individuals or syndicates are reported to have used the department’s name, official logo and documents resembling the Department of Agriculture to deceive victims into providing personal information, making payments, or engaging in suspicious activities.

“Please be informed that the Department of Agriculture Sarawak does not solicit payments or personal information through third parties or personal communication channels,” he said in a statement today.

He emphasised that all official dealings with the department are conducted only through legitimate and authorised channels.

“The public is reminded and advised to remain vigilant of any suspicious phone calls, messages, emails, or letters claiming to be from the department,” he said.

Dominic urged members of the public to verify any such communications with the nearest Department of Agriculture Sarawak office or via its official channels before engaging in any transactions.

He also encouraged victims or potential victims to report such incidents to the relevant authorities, such as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), or directly to the department.

“We take this matter seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to combat these fraudulent activities and protect public interest,” he added.

For further information or to lodge a report, the public can contact the Department of Agriculture Sarawak at 082-441000, email webmaster@doa.sarawak.gov.my, or visit their official website at doa.sarawak.gov.my.
