KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is conducting an investigation on the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) at Jalan Puncak Borneo and action will be taken if there is any evidence of negligence, said SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

This was in view of the alarming number of positive Covid-19 cases reported at the training centre recently.

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, pointed out that similar investigations were conducted with regard to standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance at Semuja Immigration Detention Centre and the Sri Aman prison previously.

He said the same would go for schools if an outbreak occurred there.

“There has been one secondary school reported to involve about 100 positive cases. We are also investigating this, as to whether they follow (the SOPs),” he said at the SDMC Covid-19 update press conference today.

He stressed that SDMC would not condone any negligence as this had a very detrimental effect, as seen at Pulapol with its high number of cases.

“We must send a message to the rest of the organisations that they must be responsible to ensure that proper SOPs are being carried out and all precautions are taken.

“It can be done and there is no reason why it should not be done. If we find anyone who is negligent, we will take action,” warned Uggah.
