KUCHING: Residents, particularly the youth in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency, have been reminded to submit their applications for the B2 Motorcycle Driving Licence Assistance Programme (BLM) before the Aug 1 deadline.

Application forms must be submitted to the organiser, Puncak Borneo Service Centre, at No. 8, Sinaruh Hill, Kampung Bratan, Batu 16, Jalan Puncak Borneo, by 5pm on Aug 1.

The BLM initiative is designed to help eligible residents obtain a valid B2 motorcycle driving licence at a lower cost while encouraging safer and lawful road use.

The programme is also aimed at easing the community’s financial burden, particularly those from low-income households, by making driving licences more affordable and accessible.

It is open to school students, residents from rural and interior areas, recipients of government assistance, the urban poor and other eligible individuals.

Applicants must be Malaysian citizens who are at least 16 years old on the date of registration for the Part 1 test.

They must also be physically and mentally fit, must not hold any other class of driving licence, and must not be blacklisted by the courts, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) or the police.

Participants accepted into the programme will pay only RM250, significantly lower than the normal RM530 fee, allowing them to save RM280 while obtaining a legal motorcycle licence.

A spokesperson from Puncak Borneo Service Centre Peter Apit said successful applicants will be contacted in stages by JPJ and the driving institute for registration, training and testing arrangements.

According to Peter, who is the special officer to Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, the programme schedule begins with participant registration, payment of participation fee and a briefing on Aug 9 at the service centre.

This will be followed by the driving course and written test on Aug 15 at the service centre hall and Bratan Hall. Processing of the Learner’s Driving Licence is scheduled from Aug 17 to 20.

Practical riding training will take place on Aug 29 at Bratan Hall before candidates sit for the JPJ practical riding test on Sept 26 and 27 at Bratan Hall and the service centre.

The programme will conclude with a closing ceremony on Oct 3 at Che Hoe Khor Hall in Siburan, marking the completion of another initiative aimed at improving road safety and expanding legal riding opportunities for residents in Puncak Borneo.
