KUCHING: A total of 56 local fruit saplings have been planted in the 2018 Tree Planting Programme organi sed by Sarawak Stat e Library (Pustaka) yesterday. Planted near the Pustaka Lake in Petra Jaya, the programme was attended by Pustaka Management Board Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bugo with 100 participants comprising Pustaka staff and local communities.
In the programme, a total of 50 saplings from ‘dabai’, ‘jering’, ‘engkalak’, ‘kepayang’, ‘cempedak’ and ‘kristal’ were planted while another six saplings cont r ibuted by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) comprising of ‘noni’, ‘kuini’, ‘kristal’ and ‘kepayang’.
Hamid when met said the programme was an annual Pustaka event for the last 17 years with the objective of beautifying the garden of Pustaka by planting a variety of local trees.
“This is also one of the efforts to build a sense of ownership and responsibility among the local community towards this library,” he said, hoping the programme could make the Pustaka area to be more comfortable for its visitors.
