SIBU: Mukah will take centre stage in promoting literacy and lifelong learning as Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) Sibu hosts the Sarawakku Membaca Carnival 2026 at Kampung Teh Multipurpose Hall, Mukah on Aug 1 from 8am to 5pm.
The one-day carnival is set to bring together the local community through a diverse range of educational and interactive activities aimed at nurturing a stronger reading culture while reinforcing the importance of knowledge as the foundation of a progressive and informed society.
According to Pustaka Sibu, a key highlight of the programme will be the “Favourite Book Sharing Session” featuring Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi.
During the session, he will share his favourite books and personal insights on how reading has shaped perspectives, leadership and lifelong learning.
His participation is expected to inspire members of the public, particularly young readers, to embrace reading as a lifelong habit and recognise its role in personal growth, critical thinking and community development.
The programme is one of Pustaka’s flagship initiatives to cultivate a love for reading and strengthen a knowledge-based culture across the state. The initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to developing communities that are informed, knowledgeable and well-equipped to meet the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and digital world.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of engaging activities throughout the carnival, including workshops, storytelling sessions, hands-on learning activities, knowledge-sharing talks, exhibitions and other reading promotion programmes designed to appeal to participants of all ages.
“By adopting a carnival concept, the programme seeks to create an enjoyable and inclusive learning environment where reading is celebrated as both an enriching and rewarding experience, encouraging families and communities to discover the joy of books together.
“The event is supported by several strategic partners, including the Kampung Teh Village Library and Digital Community Centre (DCC), Mukah Public Library, the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Community and Tribal Leaders (KMKK), and the Mukah District Office.”
