SIBU: The Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) here will be organising a two-day Sarawak Children’s Arts and Literature Festival 2025 starting September 6.
The festival, which will take place at its premises onTun Tuanku Bujang Road, Sungai Merah, from 9 am to 5 pm, is expected to attract participation of hundreds of children from various backgrounds, including special children, in an atmosphere full of joy and creativity.
With the theme “Cosmic Explorers”, the festival is organised to introduce the function of libraries as modern learning centres that have a broader role than just a place to borrow or return books.
According to a press release from Pustaka Sibu on Wednesday, Pustaka aims to create a new perception among the younger generation that libraries are now a hub of knowledge, technology, creativity and activities based on a fun and high-impact hands-on approach.
“This festival also serves as an inclusive platform open to children of all ages, including those with special needs, and encourages comprehensive involvement in planned learning activities, while helping children explore their interests, build self-confidence and uncover their hidden talents in various fields.
“Apart from expanding access to knowledge, this festival also aims to introduce new technology to the younger generation, encourage library membership among children, foster a reading culture and improve communication and speaking skills through activities such as storytelling and public performances,” the press release said.
Throughout the two days event, visitors, especially children, will be presented with various interactive spaces that include various aspects of education and entertainment such as exhibition spaces, games, science and technology (STEM), book sales, performance stages, story corners, food areas and reading corners for the little ones.
More than 50 interesting activities will be held, involving the collaboration of various agencies, the educational community and local arts and literature activists.
All of this, the press release added, is being implemented as part of an ongoing effort to foster a culture of reading and instill the spirit of lifelong learning among the community, especially the younger generation.
The public, especially residents around Sibu, are invited to come and enliven the event with their families and take the opportunity to participate in the various beneficial activities provided.
The presence of the public not only supports the development of children’s education, but also strengthens the role of the library as an important institution in the formation of a knowledgeable and innovative society.
