SIBU: Public Works Department (PWD) director Dr Cassidy Morris has been appointed as an adjunct professor at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here today.
According to UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Shahril Osman, the appointment will give students the opportunity to engage with an adjunct professor such as Cassidy.
“Through this appointment, students will be exposed to what the industry requires in the field of civil engineering, as well as matters related to the Sarawak PWD,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters at the appointment ceremony and motivational talk held at the Tun Taib Chancellor Hall, UTS, earlier.
Meanwhile, Cassidy expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the appointment, describing it as a new and exciting challenge in his role as a leader in Sarawak’s construction industry.
“PWD Sarawak is the main implementing agency for projects in the state. So, as an adjunct professor at UTS, I see myself as a bridge between industry and academia. I am truly proud of this appointment and will do my utmost to link the two – reality and theory,” he added.
He said while universities tend to focus more on theory, the industry is centred around real-world application.
“This way, students can begin to imagine what the working world might be like. It may not align exactly with what they’re currently learning, but the reality comes from us.
“As an adjunct professor, I will try to help students better understand what is happening within the industry. I would like to thank UTS for this appointment,” he said.
