KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) is exploring strategic collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to strengthen knowledge exchange and adopt advanced engineering practices in support of sustainable infrastructure development in the state.

Led by its director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris, the delegation recently visited NUS to strengthen institutional ties, focusing on innovation, research, and the application of cutting-edge engineering solutions.

The visit focused on identifying opportunities to enhance the delivery, resilience and sustainability of infrastructure projects in Sarawak through collaboration with one of the region’s leading academic institutions.

During the programme, the delegation toured the Civil and Structural Engineering laboratories at NUS, where they were briefed on ongoing research, testing facilities, and emerging technologies, gaining valuable insights into the latest developments in structural engineering, materials testing, and infrastructure innovation.

The Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at NUS is internationally recognised for its academic and research excellence, ranking among the top programmes globally and acknowledged as the leading programme in Asia.

The engagement also provided a platform for both parties to exchange views on potential future collaboration, including professional development initiatives, technical knowledge sharing and joint programmes aimed at supporting continuous improvement within the infrastructure sector.

The strategic visit underscores PWD Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with leading academic institutions and leveraging global best practices to ensure high-impact, resilient and sustainable infrastructure development for Sarawak.
