KUCHING: Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris paid a surprise visit to the Jalan Matang construction and upgrading project site on Monday (Jan 26) to assess work progress and traffic management conditions in the area.
The visit was aimed at ensuring that traffic flow remains a top priority for the comfort and safety of road users, while also confirming that the project is progressing according to the approved schedule.
In line with PWD Sarawak’s commitment to improving traffic conditions along Matang Road, several traffic management enhancements are being implemented.
These include the operation of newly installed traffic lights, the opening of two traffic lanes, and the deployment of Traffic Control Officers to facilitate smoother vehicle movement, particularly during peak hours.
During the visit, Cassidy stressed that the safety of road users must not be compromised despite ongoing construction works.
He also directed all parties involved to strictly adhere to the approved traffic management plan throughout the duration of the project.
At the same time, he advised road users to remain patient and to continue cooperating during the construction period to ensure the project can be completed smoothly and to a high standard.
