SIBU: It could be the heat spell. A seven-foot-long reticulated python thought it could find refuge under a table in a hallway of a school here just after midnight this morning (May 9).
But the reptile’s reprieve from the sweltering heat was short-lived. The snake, weighing about 7kg, was spotted by a security guard of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Guong Ann who immediately alerted the Sibu Civil Defence Force (APM).

APM officer Major Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Badrudin said that as soon as they received a distress call around 12.02 am, a team was deployed to the scene.
It took the team almost an hour to subdue the python.
The operation ended around 1.20 am and the python was later released to its original habitat away from the school.
