DOHA: Humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people facing acute food shortage continued with the arrival of 49 Qatari aid trucks in Egypt and Jordan on Sunday, reported Xinhua, citing Qatar’s Foreign Ministry.
The shipment comprises 4,704 food parcels, 200 tonnes of food supplies, 174 tonnes of flour, and 5,000 units of infant formula.
The aid, provided by the Qatar Fund for Development in cooperation with Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent, is being delivered to the World Food Programme (WFP) for distribution in the Gaza Strip via the Rafah and Kerem Shalom border crossings, according to the statement.
The ministry emphasised that the assistance comes amid catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing blockade.
Local Palestinian sources confirmed that aid trucks began entering Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing on Sunday morning under the supervision of the Egyptian Red Crescent.
On Sunday, Gaza’s health authorities said in a brief statement that six new deaths due to starvation and malnutrition had been recorded in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of malnutrition-related mortality since October 2023 to 133, including 87 children. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
