THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has conducted Quality of Service (QoS) network performance assessments in Meradong, Tellian, Simunjan, Kabong, Krian and Kalaka this year, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly was told.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said the tests were carried out in response to concerns raised by residents in the affected constituencies.
“MCMC has completed QoS assessments in all these areas to evaluate the actual network performance experienced by users,” he said during his winding-up speech today.
He added that telecommunications providers were instructed to address weaknesses identified in the assessments.
“Following the evaluation, service providers have been directed to take the necessary steps to improve network performance and quality of service,” he said.
Julaihi expressed hope that the next phase of the federal digital initiative would offer long-term solutions.
“I hope that the implementation of National Digital Network (JENDELA) Phase 2 will take these highlighted areas into account, especially with the construction of new towers, so that coverage issues and network performance can be properly resolved,” he said.
He added that strengthening digital connectivity in rural and semi-urban areas remains a priority for both state and federal authorities.
