KUCHING: Education is crucial to ensure that children are able to compete in the Industry 4.0 revolution.
“Developed countries like Singapore, Japan, Korea and Finland emphasised on the importance of quality education for their children,” Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong said when officiating the state-level Primary School Management and Leadership Workshop here yesterday.
Quality education, he stressed, should start from primary school level as at that phase, it was easy to shape the children.
“If our children did not get good results, we should not blame them nor the teachers.
“What is important is that the children understood what was taught to them,” the Tebedu assemblyman explained.
The workshop was held to increase the management and leadership skills of principals.

This year, the Education, Science and Technological Research Ministry in collaboration with the State Education Department and Institute Aminuddin Baki, Sarawak branch have trained 858 out of 1,265 principals statewide from August 2018 to June 24.
According to the statistics given by the State Education Department, 40 out of 60 schools participated in the first series whereby this resulted in the increase of UPSR results by 2.82 per cent for 2018.
For the fifth series, a total of 103 principals from the southern zone attended in this five-day workshop.
The principals are selected based on the performance of UPSR results in their respective schools.
The ministry urged the teachers to take up the same teaching and learning method for primary four and five students to face the upcoming UPSR examination in the future.
