KUCHING: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has conveyed her wish to adopt two-year-old Missclyen Roland, a Sarawakian baby girl diagnosed with congenital generalised hypertrichosis (CGH).
Theresa Guntin, Missclyen’s mother, shared the heartfelt letter from Istana Negara, dated Oct 10, on her Facebook page Wednesday (Nov 1).
The letter also read that the cost of Missclyen’s education and the treatment of her hypertrichosis, or Werewolf Syndrome, would be covered.
“I hope that this assistance will alleviate the burden on Missclyen’s father in providing care and raising her,” the letter conveyed.
Later, Missclyen’s father, Roland Jimbai told New Sarawak Tribune that he had received the letter from Istana Negara through Minister of Women, Early Childhood, Community Well-being Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah during a ‘doa selamat’ (thanksgiving) ceremony at Li Lua Hotel, Bintulu on Oct 31.
“I was invited to attend the thanksgiving ceremony in conjunction with the presentation of the letter from Istana Negara to us.
“Upon receiving and reading the letter, words cannot express how I felt at the time. I was full of emotions. I was really shocked, happy and touched at the same time.
“This means our little Missclyen is a princess. And we will call her princess Missclyen,” he said.
The 49-year-old said given that they are just ordinary people faced with hardship, they may not be able to give the optimum to Missclyen.
“It is hoped that my daughter’s life, especially in terms of her health and education, will be much better in the future.
“My family has experienced social stigma in the past because of Missclyen’s looks and condition. However, starting from today and as she grows up, she will always be respected because Permaisuri is adopting her,” he said.
Roland, who works at a welding workshop in Bintulu also hoped that he and his family could have the opportunity to meet the King and Queen again at the Istana Negara one day.
Earlier, Theresa, in a post on her Facebook page, shared her disbelief, saying it was like a dream.
“You (Missclyen) are very fortunate… hope everything will go smoothly,” she said.
Roland and Theresa are blessed with three daughters and one son, with Missclyen being the youngest.
Previously, on Sept 10, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and his wife, Tunku Azizah had the opportunity to meet Missclyen and her parents during their visit to Sarawak.
The meeting took place at the Al-Falah Mosque in Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10, Jalan Bintulu-Miri.
Their Majesties’ visit to the state was part of the ‘Kembali Kenali Borneo’ expedition from Sept 3 to 13, covering a total distance of 2,154km from Tawau, Sabah, to Telok Melano, Sarawak, along the Pan Borneo Highway, which connects Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
