KUCHING: Quick action by firefighters saved a convenience store from being completely razed by a fire along Green Road.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call regarding a fire incident on a 24-hour convenience store at 8.19pm last night (Sept 20).
It dispatched firefighters from Batu Lintang fire station as well as from Padungan fire station to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team reported that the fire involved a permanent two-storey convenience store.
“The flames had destroyed approximately 35 per cent of the building, starting from the front section and spreading towards the middle of the shop,” it said.
Firefighters laid out two 100-foot hose lines with two nozzles to contain the blaze.
The team also conducted tactical ventilation at the middle and rear of the premise, which successfully checked the spread of the fire and prevented further destruction.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The operation was brought under control at 8.30 pm and ended at 9.03 pm after firefighters ensured the area was completely safe.
The cause of the fire and the total estimated loss remain under investigation.
