KUCHING: Swift action by six Bako auxiliary firefighters (PBS) managed to prevent the complete destruction of Dewan Kampung Bako Lot after a fire broke out last night (Dec 18).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were dispatched to the scene at Jalan Haruan 7 after receiving a distress call at 7.21pm.

Upon arrival, they discovered that Bako PBS already working to contain the blaze and assisted them in the extinguishing deed.

The fire, which caused less than 50 per cent damage to the building, was brought under control and overhaul works followed to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the blaze.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
