KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local man was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle after police officers spotted him acting suspiciously by the roadside near the Bukit Berangan Ria commercial lot on Thursday (Mar 27).

Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said the arrest was made by an MPV team conducting a crime prevention patrol in the area.

“During questioning, the man claimed that he had stopped by the roadside for a quick rest.

“He also failed to show his identification card, saying he had lost it,” he said.

Initial checks showed that the motorcycle had not been reported missing. However, further verification through the police mobile computer-aided dispatch (MCAD) system revealed that the motorcycle’s engine number matched a vehicle reported missing in Kota Sentosa.

The man was subsequently arrested and the motorcycle was seized. Both were taken to Kota Samarahan police headquarters for further action.

Damataries urged the public to report any crime-related information to the nearest police station for action to be taken.

Policemen load the motorcycle onto a police truck to transport it to Kota Samarahan police headquarters.
