LUNDU: The Rafflesia flower at Gunung Gading National Park here is poised for an extraordinary bloom in early January 2025, with experts predicting it to be even larger than usual.

The matured bud of this rare flower, renowned for its immense size and distinctive fragrance, has been growing rapidly, much to the excitement of conservationists and visitors.

“Our team has been closely monitoring the bud’s development, and it’s reaching an impressive size.

“This is a unique opportunity to witness one of nature’s most remarkable events,” the national park said in a Facebook post.

The Rafflesia, often referred to as the “corpse flower” due to its unique odour is one of nature’s most fascinating spectacles.

Found in only a few locations worldwide, its bloom is a fleeting event, lasting just a few days.

Nature enthusiasts are encouraged to stay updated and plan their visits accordingly to witness this rare phenomenon.

Gunung Gading National Park is one of the few places in the world where the Rafflesia can be found in its natural habitat. The park also offers scenic trails and waterfalls, making it a popular destination for nature lovers.
