KUCHING: The Sarawak government has agreed to set up the Rajang Delta Development Agency to better coordinate developments in the coastal region.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the area includes Daro, Bruit, Mukah, and Jemoreng.
“Following the success of establishing the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), Highland Development Agency (HDA), Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) where these respective agencies can focus on the development in the respective areas under it.
“Therefore, for the Rajang Delta area, I want to announce that we will set up the Rajang Delta Development Agency, and this agency will be led by Datuk Len Talif Salleh (Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development),” he said.
He said this when closing the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 15th Triennial Delegates Meeting (TGM) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari, who is also the PBB president, said that for Betong, another similar agency to focus on development in the area would also be set up.
“I will ask Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to find the area boundaries and this will include the area of Kabong, Kalaka, including Maludam.
He mentioned that an allocation of RM1.5 billion each will be given to the two agencies to carry out the developments.
Meanwhile, besides URDA, HDA, IRSDA, the other similar agencies that have been set up are Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA), and the latest Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
