MIRI: A total of 98 residents from Kampung Luak received food assistance and festive cash aid under the Sumbangan Kasih Ramadan 2026 programme here.

It was held at the Kampung Luak Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, as part of efforts to support low income households ahead of Aidilfitri.

The initiative, organised by the Piasau Community Service Centre, was officiated by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting who is also Piasau assemblyman.

Each recipient received a package of essential food items comprising 10 kilogrammes of rice, two kilogrammes each of sugar and cooking oil, a packet of biscuits, as well as festive cash contributions.

The aid was jointly sponsored by the organisers and partner agencies.

In addition, 300 containers of bubur lambuk were distributed to villagers and members of the public for breaking the fast, underscoring the community focused nature of the programme during the month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the event, Ting said the initiative reflected the core values of Ramadan, particularly compassion, generosity and shared responsibility within the community.

“Ramadan is about giving and sharing. While individual contributions may seem modest, collective action can provide meaningful relief and hope to those who genuinely need support,” he said.

He added that the spirit of unity and mutual assistance, regardless of race or religion, remained a defining strength of the Piasau community, helping to ensure that vulnerable groups were not left behind.

Saturday’s programme was the third such initiative held in the Piasau constituency this year, with similar activities planned for other villages in the coming weeks as part of ongoing outreach efforts to strengthen social cohesion in the area.
