SIBU: The organisers of the Ramadan Bazaar at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II will provide an alternative through the WhatsApp application to receive any complaints from visitors regarding the quality and cleanliness of food at the bazaar.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said this provision is intended to ensure that traders consistently uphold the quality and cleanliness standards of the food they sell.
“All 108 stalls will be allocated numbers, clearly displayed at their respective stalls, to assist visitors in lodging complaints if they are dissatisfied with their purchases.
“Upon receiving complaints along with the stall number, we will engage health authorities to conduct inspections, and organisers will also oversee monitoring efforts.
“If there are indeed cleanliness issues (or spoiled food), the implicated traders will be instructed to immediately cease operations for two weeks,” he said when met by the media after attending a briefing with Ramadan Bazaar traders here yesterday (Feb 25).
The Nangka asemblyman said that the WhatsApp application number for filing complaints will be made public in the near future and he reminded the traders to consistently uphold the quality and cleanliness of food, including items sourced from external suppliers.
“I advise them to thoroughly inspect items received from other vendors or suppliers before offering them for sale. Failure to do so would render them liable in the event of any mishaps or complaints from visitors.”
Dr Annuar said that this year’s Ramadan Bazaar was organised by the Nangka Service Centre in collaboration with two trader associations in Sibu and this year’s setup differs, as a central area in the bazaar will be designated with tables and chairs for visitors to break their fast.
“We’ve also allocated a small area for a prayer room. Thus, this concept deviates significantly from previous years, where visitors had no designated space to sit and break their fast.”
